Recycled Crayon

Recycle worn out broken crayons into your own new color creations! 🖍

1. Preheat oven to 200°F.

2. Peel off any remaining paper from the crayons. (Tedious but exercises fine motor skills).

3. Sort the crayons, organizing by color. (A good opportunity for sorting practice).

4. Fill each cup of an oven safe baking tray with the crayon bits. A muffin tin is a popular choice but here we used aluminum foil and a cooling rack to create long cups resembling a crayon shape.

5. Bake for about 15 minutes or until all crayon bits are melted.

6. Let cool completely and remove the new crayons from the tray. If the new crayons stick to the tray, pop it in the freezer for a bit.

7. To add a creative twist, name your new crayon colors. For example we came up with names like "lava red" and "grasshopper green."
